Welcome to the home page of Professor James Allen, Professor in the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Arizona State University.

Our research group is interested in how proteins perform cellular functions, such as nitrogen assimilation and photosynthesis. Of particular interest are integral membrane proteins that are embedded in cell membranes such as the bacterial reaction center and nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. In addition, we investigate biomedical issues using X-ray diffraction, such as nicotine dependence and the development of mosquitocidal agents.
